Hey new student!

We, HUMAKO´s tutors and team members, would like to warmly welcome you to Humak! The Helsinki campus is home to lots of HUMAKO members from all of Humak’s degree programmes, so don’t hesitate to come and chat with us or ask if there’s anything on your mind. During the first few weeks, the tutors will be hosting tutor sessions (you can usually spot us by our red overalls or tutor shirts), so we’ll see you there at the latest! The board of HUMAKO would also like to extend a warm welcome to your new school and the adventures ahead! The board is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the student union HUMAKO. We work to ensure that students’ rights and interests are represented, we coordinate our anti-harassment contact persons, train local actives (tutors, team members and division members), organize student events, and manage matters related to HUMAKO´s membership. During the autumn semester, we will also host HUMAKO-info sessions, where you can learn more about what we do and even try on student overalls. Hey continuing student!

We’re excited to continue your studies with you! On this page, you’ll find information about everything that’s available to you during your upcoming years at Humak.

Remember to register your attendance for the academic year. Academic year registration is completed in Peppi between 1 April and 31 July 2026.

You must also enroll in your courses through your Personal Study Plan (HOPS) on the Student’s Desktop after you have registered as attending.

Remember to pay the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS/YTHS) healthcare fee to Kela on your own initiative for both the spring and autumn semesters. The payment for the upcoming autumn semester must be made by 15 November 2026. You can find more information in OmaKela or on Kela’s website.

Be sure to check whether you are eligible for any Kela benefits, such as housing allowance or financial aid for students.

Our learning platform is changing: Canvas will replace Hoodle starting this autumn! Instructions for using Canvas will be available in the “Canvas for Students“ area by 10 August 2026 at the latest. All students will be automatically enrolled in the course. Humak will provide more information separately. Be sure to follow Humak’s student Teams channel, social media, and the news section on humak.fi to stay up to date with the latest announcements.

Tutors

The role of tutors is to assist students and provide peer support, as well as to promote student well-being. You can ask us any questions — big or small. We tutors are here for you.

Team

Other activities and events

As a student at Humak you can join the student union HUMAKO as a member. As a member of the student union HUMAKO, you become part of the HUMAKO community and gain access to both local and nationwide student benefits and discounts. The membership quickly pays for itself!

You can get discounts on various student events, different products (which you can browse on platforms like Kide.app), travel and food. Degree students are also entitled to familiar student benefits from VR, Matkahuolto, and Kela. The HUMAKO mobile membership card can be found in Slice and Kide.App, where you can also browse available benefits. HUMAKO is part of the Opku+ network, which includes student unions from other universities of applied sciences. As a HUMAKO member, you also get member discounts on events and products from these student unions.

Housing

In the Helsinki metropolitan area, student housing is provided by the Foundation for Student Housing in the Helsinki Region (HOAS). HOAS offers apartments in Helsinki, Espoo, Kauniainen and Vantaa. You can submit a housing application to HOAS once you have received confirmation of your study place.
