Become a local active

HUMAKO’s local activities – including tutoring, divisions and teams – are open to all Humak students, and every student can participate in the organized activities. All HUMAKO members are welcome to apply as local activity organizers. The activities are run by students for students, meaning they are based on students’ wishes and reflect the style of the working groups.

As a local activity organizer, you get to promote a diverse and community-driven student life at the grassroots level. We are looking for local activity organizers from all degree programs and study years—we want as many different kinds of people as possible in our team. Participating is fun and rewarding and one of the most unforgettable experiences during your studies. As a local activity organizer you can also earn 2 to 15 credits. So, don’t hesitate—apply and join the activities!

Apply to a team! (Tampere, Turku and Helsinki Capital Region)

Capital region team (PKS Team)

The local activities (such as events, advocacy etc) of Humak’s Helsinki and Kauniainen campus are coordinated by the PKS Team, which was established in February 2025. Do you want to help build the HUMAKO community in the PKS area, organize events, take care of students rights or plan new patches? Apply to join the team!

The PKS team is a completely new local activity group, and its activities will take shape according to its members over the coming years. Any member of HUMAKO can apply to join the team.

Participating in the team’s activities might require physical presence in the Helsinki area when. The Student Union HUMAKO will support the team’s activities during the start-up phase and in the future.

TKU-Team

The local activities of Humak’s Turku campus are coordinated by the Turku Team, which was established in early autumn 2024. Do you want to help build the HUMAKO community in the Turku area, organize events, or be a tutor? Apply to join the team!

The Turku team is a completely new local activity group, and its activities will take shape according to its members over the coming years. Any member of HUMAKO can apply to join the team.

Participating in the team’s activities requires physical presence in the Turku area when new students begin, as well as whenever else the team agrees to meet. The Student Union HUMAKO will support the team’s activities during the start-up phase and in the future.

TRE-team

Humak will launch its new campus in Tampere in autumn 2024, and the first students of cultural production and community education will start in the new location in August-September. Do you want to be part of building HUMAKO in Tampere and welcome the new students to the city? Apply to join the Tampere team!

The Tampere team is a brand new local team that will take shape over the next few years. Any member of HUMAKO can apply to join the team.

Participation in the team requires physical presence in Tampere when new students start and when the team otherwise agrees, i.e. you can also live in the Tampere area, for example. The HUMAKO student union will support the activities during the start-up phase and in the future.

Helsinki Actives

The Helsinki Active is a new form of local action, with a low threshold to get involved. These activemembers are HUMAKO members who are interested in helping the HUMAKO Board and the PKS team to organise programmes and events for other students during 2025. The time spent as a member is agreed on a case-by-case basis and does not commit you to participate in everything possible. There is no time limit on when you can apply to join in to be Helsinki Active you can apply at any time. All applications will be processed within 2 weeks of receipt.

What kind of things can you do as a Helsinki active?

As a active member, you can get involved in things like organising checkpoints at events, helping out in the kitchen at sessions, planning events and organising new student infos.

What’s in it for you?

The opportunity to get to know HUMAKO from a vantage point in good company. After the orientation, you will become part of the Helsinki actives. You’ll also have fun memories and the chance to develop your activities to better serve us HUMAKO members. Helsinki actives will also have their own events and development sessions.

The application period for the Helsinki Actives is not limited, you can apply at any time! After submitting the form, we will contact you within two weeks. You can find the application form here!

Apply to become a tutor or a division member!

Tutors and divisions/teams work together. You can apply for both forms of local activity if you are motivated and your life situation allows. However, we advise you to think about which of the two is more suitable and attractive for you. The workload includes both tasks and you should be able to commit to both positions of trust throughout your term.

Divisions- Let’s make your student life more fun!

In the division you can have a concrete effect on the student life in your city or region! Divisions collect feedback, improve, brainstorming and organise different student events.

Division organises a variety of events for students to increase the feeling of community spirit. Events can be organised for the students in ones own campus or bigger events done together with other Student Unions. Divisions make their own regions better with initiatives or getting comfort enhancing supplies. The divisions have taken forward indoor air problems and have got gender-neutral toilets and a coffee machine in the break room on campus. They market HUMAKO’s products and activities and can acquire new student benefits to enliven students’ everyday lives.

As a division member you get:

Division activities are guided and supported by the HUMAKO board’s local activities team, as well as the division leader and the other members of the divisions. Division work is done through the year and fits different timetables and is flexible. All division members get an orientation to the task, so you need only energy and motivation to apply!

Peer Support and Safety in Everyday Student Life!

As a HUMAKO tutor, you can be present and help students with problems related to their studies and leisure time. As a Humak student yourself, you will be able to give other students valuable peer support and encouragement in their studies.

Tutoring is an activity that supports your studies, such as:

  • Guiding students
  • Giving advice
  • Helping people become friends
  • Providing peer support
  • Promoting community and well-being
  • Supporting networking and everyday activities for students

Tutoring happens in different environments, locally, in the context of timetabled lessons and possibly face-to-face in different locations. Tutoring includes brainstorming, planning, reporting and evaluating. The commitment to the activity is flexible depending on your timetable and life situation.

Additionally, tutors

  • provide tutoring support also during contact teaching outside their own mode of study
  • organize live or online sessions for different study modes throughout the semester (in Finnish and English)

As a tutor you get:

Tutoring is coordinated by HUMAKO and all tutors are HUMAKO tutors. Therefore, students must have a valid Student Union HUMAKO membership to act as a tutor.

Tutor activities are guided and supported by the HUMAKO board’s local activities team, as well as by designated tutor leaders and HUMAKO tutor teachers. So you don’t have to be a tutor on your own!
