Congratulations on your place of study at the Humak University of Applied Sciences, or as short HUMAK!

A warm welcome to start your journey in the HUMAK community – this greeting letter was created just for you, a new HUMAK student! You have great years of study ahead of you and we want you to get the most out of them. In this greeting letter, we have compiled important information and practical tips just for you to support your studies!

HUMAKO is HUMAK’s own student body – the community and voice of our students. You too can join HUMAKO as a new student!

Members receive cheaper prices on, among other things, tickets to student events, overall badges and the student overalls themselves. Members also receive an electronic student card, which gives you a variety of membership benefits and discounts. Membership is also a prerequisite for applying for to become a tutor, section or team member and representative council member. In addition, as a member of HUMAKO, you can influence our activities and promote the rights and well-being of students!

Joining is easy through the Kide.app application, and membership is worth it! Whether you are a full-time, blended or online student, taking open university courses or a YAMK student – we are here for you!

Welcome meetings and WhatsApp groups for new students

HUMAKO is welcoming you, a new student, to become part of the HUMAKO community!

We recommend that you join the WhatsApp groups for new students. You can find more information about the groups and their opening times via this link.

We will meet at the latest during the orientation days at HUMAKO info on campus or online. HUMAKO info is a short informational briefing about the student body for all new students! After the info, you will also have the opportunity to try on overalls and purchase HUMAKO products (NOTE: Overalls can only be tried on at campus infos). The schedules for HUMAKO infos and overall fittings will be finalized during August.

HUMAKO tutors and staff are here to support and encourage you during your studies.

Student Union HUMAKO activities are open to all HUMAK students. We organize activities at campus locations and online. We want to meet you!

As a member, you save – you get numerous benefits and discounts

As a new student, you can join HUMAKO as a member from August 1st, 2026 on. As a member of HUMAKO, you are part of the HUMAKO community, and you have access to local and national student benefits and discounts. Membership pays itself back quickly!

You can get discounts on various student events, various products (which you can view, for example, on Kide.app), travel and eating. Degree students are also entitled to the student benefits of VR, Matkahuolto and Kela that are familiar to students. HUMAKO’s mobile membership card can be found in the Slice and Kide.App apps, through which you can browse the available benefits. HUMAKO is part of the Opku+ network, which includes student unions at other universities (ASK, Helga, TUO, Laureamko, METKA, JAMKO and O’Diako). As a member of HUMAKO, you also get a member discount on the events and products of these student unions.

Overalls – a student’s go-to outfit from the online store

Student overalls – comfortable, durable & stylish formal attire for leisure time during your studies!

HUMAKO’s bright red overalls are designed specifically for HUMAK students.

The overalls will arrive before Christmas. We produce overalls only based on orders, so remember to order your overalls as soon as they go on sale! To make choosing a size easier, you can try on overalls at the HUMAKO infos. It’s also good to have room for warm clothes under the overalls for winter student leisure if necessary.

HUMAKO’s office is located on the Helsinki campus. You can buy products from the office or pick up your online store order. HUMAKO’s customer service is open from 3.8. onwards and the office will be open again on Tuesdays from 11 am to 2 pm starting from the 8th of September.

Feedback channels, advocacy and anti-harassment contact persons

HUMAKO’s most important tasks include safeguarding students’ interests. Interest monitoring means, among other things, that we collect, evaluate and pass on students’ feedback. We act as a message broker and messenger between the student and HUMAK. We meet with HUMAK’s staff, represent students and promote issues important to students. With the help of the feedback, HUMAKO, among other things, intervenes in problems that have arisen, thanks the staff for successes, rushes late grades and also develops its own operations. Feedback is therefore particularly important – remember to give it at a very low threshold! ❤️ You can give feedback about the activities of HUMAKO, the school or the staff via the form found on HUMAKO’s website.

HUMAKO also promotes the well-being of students in co-operation with other student organizations and student unions nationally and locally.

At HUMAKO, we do not accept harassment, discrimination or any kind of inappropriate behavior. HUMAKO has annually changing designated anti-harassment contact persons. They can be contacted in any matter related to encountering harassment, whether it occurred in HUMAK or HUMAKO’s activities. The experience of harassment is individual, and no matter is too small to contact. The task of the anti-harassment contact persons is primarily to help and support the person who has experienced harassment.

HUMAK – Student well-being

Student Union HUMAKO’s active activities = school credits!

Any HUMAK student can apply to become an active member of HUMAKO. By being an active, you get to decide for yourself what your student union does and how you make things run smoothly at your university. HUMAKO activities are also a nice way to promote your own studies, as you can also earn credits for your activities!

Local activities, i.e. tutor, team and division activities

The local HUMAKO division develops the activities of its own campus and organizes events that invigorate student life. HUMAKO tutors support other students and the well-being of students. HUMAKO teams are creating a new kind of versatile activity by combining division and tutor activities. In addition to the good vibes and experience in tutor, team and division activities, it is possible to get 2-10 credits for optional studies. You will also receive an overall patch and many courses can be studificated in the activity.

The Board

The HUMAKO’s board runs the daily practical activities of the student union. The board consists of a chairperson, a vice chairperson and at least three (3) and at most seven (7) members. The board members have their own responsibilities, which are carried out both individually and in teams and collectively as a board.

The HUMAKO’s board is currently divided into three teams: advocacy, local activities and service and events. The teams meet in online meetings every few weeks and, for example, prepare presentations for board meetings and work on the processes in their own area of ​​responsibility.

Serving on the board will earn you an overall patch, credits and allow you to studificate many courses.

HUMAKO’s board members are mainly recruited in the autumn and during possible supplementary applications throughout the year. Read more about the board’s activities and how to apply!

Representative Council of HUMAKO

The Representative Council exercises the highest decision-making power in the student union and guides the activities of the student union board so that the board can maintain the everyday life of the student union. As a member of the Representative Council, you will be able to make decisions and influence the student union’s affairs in a concrete way. You will have the opportunity to get to know students from different campuses and degree programs, see HUMAKO’s activities up close, and expand your understanding of the operations and processes of our university and student union.

By serving on the Representative Council, you will receive an overall patch, credits, and can studificate many courses.

Applications for the Representative Council are made in the elections held in the fall. All HUMAKO members are eligible to vote in the Representative Council elections. Read more about the Representative Council and how to apply!

Student representatives

Our university HUMAK’s working committees include student representatives who monitor the students’ voices and the realization of their rights at HUMAK. The working groups discuss, develop, brainstorm and decide on the direction Humak will take. The HUMAKO board’s advocacy team supports the student representatives throughout their term of office.

You will receive credits for serving as a student representative!
