HUMAKO now has it´s own dictionary – in Finnish, English and Finnish Sign Language!

During the spring of 2026, the student union HUMAKO has added some new features to it´s website:

• HUMAKO´s intro video in Finnish Sign Language (you can find it on the front page)
• Miniguide to Linguistic Accessibility (you can find it from the material bank, on the section Toimintaa ohjaavat materiaalit / Materials guiding the operation)
• HUMAKO´s dictionary in Finnish, English and Finnish Sign Language.

These were made and added to the website as student work during internship.

HUMAKO´s intro video in Finnish Sign Language

As soon as you arrive to HUMAKO´s website, you will find a short video (1 min 32 sec) signed in Finnish Sign Language. The video explains what HUMAKO is, what it does, how to become a member of HUMAKO, and what you can find on HUMAKO´s front page. The video has subtitles in Finnish.

Miniguide to Linguistic Accessibility

The material bank contains a miniguide in both Finnish and English. The guide briefly explains what accessibility means and how to make events and social media posts more accessible. It also covers how to create alt texts for images. The miniguide is useful for different HUMAKO actives, such as tutors and team members, when organizing events or creating Instagram posts.

In the material bank you can also find the Miniguide to Linguistic Accessibility instructional video (19 min 7 sec), which goes through the guide in a bit more detail. You can find the video by scrolling to the bottom of the page. The video includes Finnish subtitles and it´s spoken in Finnish.

HUMAKO´s dictionary in Finnish, English and Finnish Sign Language

When you started school as a freshman you probably came across many new terms related to Humak, HUMAKO and student life in general. Even after your first year of studies, you have surely encountered terms that were still unfamiliar to you. Sometimes it can be challenging to find the correct definition for these terms. That is why we have finally made a dictionary on HUMAKO’s website!

HUMAKO´s dictionary contains various terms related to studying at a university of applied sciences. There are a total of 119 terms. These terms are available in both Finnish and English. In Finnish Sign Language, there are 69 terms.
