Apply to Become a Local Active before 15th of March!
HUMAKO’s local activities – tutoring, local division, and teams – are intended for all Humak students, and every student can participate in the organized activities. All HUMAKO members can apply to become local actives. The activities are created by students for students, meaning they are shaped by students’ wishes and the identity of each activity group. As a local active, you get the chance to promote diverse and community-oriented student life at the grassroots level. Being involved is fun and rewarding, and often one of the most unforgettable experiences during your studies. As a local active, you can also earn 2–15 ECTS credits.
The student union HUMAKO is made up of Humak students. The Representative Council, the Board, student representatives, tutors, local division, and teams – all of these are part of HUMAKO! Anyone who has obtained HUMAKO membership is also part of HUMAKO.
From March 2–15, we are looking for local actives (tutors, local division members, and team members) from all degree programmes and year groups – we want as many different kinds of people as possible to join us! Don’t hesitate to apply and get involved in local activities.
But what is the difference between these local active roles?
Tutoring
Tutoring takes place in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, Jyväskylä, and online. As a HUMAKO tutor, you get to be present, help, and support your fellow students with study-related challenges. As a Humak student yourself, you can provide valuable peer support in both academic life and everyday student life.
Tutors also advise, guide, and help build community among students from different year groups, while promoting community, wellbeing, and everyday student engagement. All tutor activities are open to everyone, free of charge, alcohol-free, and designed to keep participation as accessible as possible.
Tutoring takes place in various environments among students, such as: Online, During in-person teaching on campuses and at learning centres and Possibly face-to-face in different cities. Tutoring includes ideating, planning, reporting, and evaluating activities.
The role allows flexible commitment according to your schedule and life situation.
Local Division
Local divisions operate in Jyväskylä, where you can directly influence what student life looks like in your city. In addition to brainstorming and organizing different student events, committees also collect feedback and address local issues that arise.
Divisions organize a wide variety of events aimed at strengthening community and local student culture. These events can range from activities for students on your own campus to larger student events organized in cooperation with other student organizations.
Divisions also: Market and sell HUMAKO products, Conduct local advocacy work and Act as a communication and feedback channel between students and HUMAKO.
Divisions activities take place throughout the year, allowing you to accumulate hours flexibly according to your own schedule. All divisions members receive training for their tasks – all you need is enthusiasm and energy!
Teams
Teams operate in Kuopio, Turku, and Tampere and are responsible for all local activities there. Team activities combine elements of both tutoring and local divisions work.
In Helsinki, the team is responsible for HUMAKO student events in the Helsinki metropolitan area, local advocacy, and other local activities that do not fall under tutoring.
As a team member, you may:
- Participate in planning, implementing, and developing events
- Help organize information sessions for new students
- Run activity checkpoints at events
- Represent HUMAKO at different occasions
Team activities combine tutoring and divisions work into one cohesive form of local engagement.
Join us!
Local activities are coordinated by HUMAKO, and all participants are HUMAKO active members. Therefore, students must have a valid HUMAKO student union membership to participate as a local active.
Local activities are guided and supported by HUMAKO’s Board Local Activities Team. In tutoring, support is also provided by designated tutor coordinators and Humak tutor lecturers. You won’t have to do it alone!
If you have questions about local activities, you can contact the Board’s Local Activities Team at [email protected].
